10:32 am - Exchange student Looks like we might take on a Japanese exchange student for the year. Holly and my friend, who is a co-ordinator for the program, are working hard at overcoming objections. Apparently they now have a girl with similar interests to Holly, and there is someone else in the area that will need to commute a student to a neighboring high school, so we might be able to carpool. I'm not sure how it will work in with our finances, but I suppose we will check into the things some more. Stay tuned for further details.

10:56 am - Do You Remember When? Long ago I signed up at classmates.com for my highschool. Somebody went looking for my non-existent profile. Now I'm curious. All I get is an email saying that 1 person visited my profile. Of course it could have been my brother. I noticed that he has an account there too. I could actually get ambitious and put up a profile, but nah I'll wait and see if anyone else remembers me.
The most ironic thing about leaving highschool was that the one person who promised to always stay in touch never did. I've heard bits and pieces about some of my old friends, and I even ran into one of them a number of years back at the Hampton Beach Casino. I probably should have gone to one of my class reunions. 07:48 am - Jeckyll and Hyde I noticed that the lead role in Jeckyll and Hyde (at Portland's lyric theater) is played by Paul Stickney. I wonder if it is the same Paul Stickney of renaissance faire fame. I guess I'll find out if Holly makes it there tonight. Current Mood: curious

11:07 am - Music Meme I can't believe it's Monday already. The weekend flew by. I guess that's what happens when you're busy. I'm not sure this totally reflects my musical interests and influences, but hey it was a limited test. The test would lead you to believe that I'm stuck in the 80s, but many days I seem stuck in a time period much further back.

05:53 am Thanks hikaroo-chan! I had fun visiting the mall and Weekend Anime with you and Holly. They sure pack quite a bit of stuff in that place. I still can't believe I've let Holly corrupt me into reading manga. I guess that's what comes from having it all over the house.
In Idol news, noooooooooooooooooooo not Anwar! My only consulation is that he will not be saddled with the ultra restrictive American Idol contract for his future. I wonder if he will go back to teaching now.
Random thought: Strawberry Pocky good! 78 cent box of Strawberry Pocky even better. Thanks for showing us where to buy Pocky Hikaroo! Current Mood: awake Current Music: "Live To Tell"-Madonna

08:58 am - Idol First of all don't waste your money on the Idol DVD. It isn't very good. It has way too much audition footage.
Let's see last night's Idol, I know Constantine loves Broadway, but he should have stayed away from the Bee Gees. Also what was up with his eye make up? Even Holly who usually drools over him wasn't impressed with his look or song tonight.
Anwar great sing as usual, but I wasn't fond of his dancing.
Carrie I'm sure will lose votes after picking the trainwreck song, "MacArthur Park". Maybe somebody should have left the Barbie wannabe out in the rain.
I don't know why Randy and Paula are stilling praising Scott. It is past his time to go.
I'm not a fan of Anthony, but I liked his performance last night.
Now Bo, well Bo just blew me away. As my Mom said, "Bo took the dance music to a new level." He totally rocked.
I almost have my husband convinced that I should have tickets to this summers Idol tour for my birthday. Of course Holly wouldn't mind because she would be the one I would go with to the show.
Edit: Holly thinks I was too harsh on Constantine. She thinks I should at least say he sang well. I say at least he didn't attempt Barry's falsetto. Current Mood: determined

07:34 am - Jealous Ok I admit it I'm jealous. Holly went to Boston for the entire day yesterday. She went with her French Club on the train. They left at 9:15am and got back at 12:15 in the evening. With school fundraising they got to go to Phantom of the Opera for only $25 each. Holly did ask the teacher if she needed a chaperone, but unfortunately she didn't. Besides seeing the play, they were going to Quincy Market and to a French restaurant. Quite a day.
I suppose my day was ok. After dropping Holly at the train, Dave and I went to the Bull and Claw for a Sunday Brunch buffet. Then we drove up the coast. With the rising gas prices, we haven't been doing much traveling lately, so it was nice to get out. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. Current Mood: apathetic

09:50 am - Social Phobia Yesterday I went to Holly's concert, and Hubby and Kristin both had other things going, so I sat alone. I'm so used to going to things with Hubby that I found myself not saying anything to anyone. Of course anyone who knows Dave knows that's it's hard to get a word in anyway when he's talking, so I've gotten too used to being quiet.
Holly's first grade teacher sat behind me, and instead of saying hello and striking up a conversation, I sat trying to remember her name. I really hate when names or words escape me. My mom calls it a senior moment when it happens to her, and she laughs it off, so what's my problem?
After the concert, I wanted to congratulate people, but of course Holly's chorus teacher was surrounded by people. I ended up just wandering to Holly at the end. I did appreciate that one of Holly's friends gave me a hug.
Holly and her sister are always running up and hugging their friends, especially if they haven't seen the person for awhile.
I really need to get out more. It has gotten to the point that most days the only people I talk to is hubby and Holly. Well not entirely true, I suppose typing to people online is a form of talking. Anyway I should figure out something to volunteer at; now the question is what to volunteer at? Current Mood: embarrassed Current Music: "Without You"-Harry Nilsson

08:43 am - PBS PBS tv has gotten ridiculous lately. They are turning cookie monster into veggie monster. They are also underfire for *gasp* trying to teach tolerance on Buster. Apparently Buster visits a lesbian family in Vermont. Ok people get over it. The traditional family has been changing, and television is only reflecting what kids see in their lives. Is it any surprise that Pat Mitchell, the executive chief of PBS, is stepping down in 2006 when her contract expires? I'm sure all the recent controversy has hindered fundraising efforts, and considering the stations depend on that money, we could be seeing the death of public television. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6980712/ Current Mood: annoyed Current Music: "Bippity Boppity Boo"

11:24 am - Sometimes I just have to wonder about researchers... Now researchers are saying to talk to teens about suicide. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7394123/ Seems to me that talking to teens about issues, be they suicide or other tough issues can only benefit them. It seems to be when the lines of communication are cut that there is the most problems.
Maybe I should have gotten into research. It must be nice to get paid to prove what you already suspect (or know) is true. I remember taking an Operations Research class in college. It was the easiest class I ever took. It was simply an exercise in making statistics say what you want. Heck the last class the teacher treated us to pizza and beer. Current Mood: pensive

10:26 am - Faerie Magazine Yep you heard me right. Faerie magazine. This month marks the premier issue. http://www.faeriemagazine.com/PremierIssue.htm I happened upon this because I was looking up Blackmore's Night to see their concert schedule. I noticed on their site that they were to be featured in Faerie Magazine, so I clicked on the link to check it out. It looks interesting. I'll have to get me a copy.
